American Truck Simulator Setup Extra Mobile Dashboard

반응형

Ok, a lot of people ask me about my American Truck Simulator / Euro Truck Simulator setup so I will post a detailed posting here. Especially setup instructions for the extra dashboard screen with the speed and RPM.

For starters, I cannot play this game on a small monitor. I tried playing this game panned over multiple monitors, but it wasn't really to my liking either. For me, this game was best connected to a TV. I now have a small dedicated area for this game on my 55" Samsung TV. Now even when playing on this TV, it is best when you drive in the Full view mode. The scenery and detail of this game is just awesome. However, when playing in Full view mode, you cannot see your gauges. Your speed can be seen on your small navigation screen, but you cannot see your RPM, gas level, temperature etc. There is a cockpit view, however with the cockpit view your view of the outside gets really small. On top of that, the gauges are hard to read.

So how did I remedy this? There is a way to connect a tablet to ATS and have the tablet display your important gauges and some extra information on top of that so that you can play in Full view mode and still have your gauge read outs. As you can see in the picture below, your extra screen will show Speed, RPM, Temperature, Gear, Time, Source, Destination, Deadline Time, Lights status, Load, Truck Wear, Trailer Damage, and Cruise Control.

One thing I did differently from most people though, is instead of using a Tablet as my extra screen, I used a laptop. No particular reason for this aside from the fact that I had an extra laptop and no extra tablets. The app only runs on Android and not on iPads, so I just installed a Android emulator on my extra laptop and voila. So basically I have 2 laptops running this game for me now. My main gaming laptop, which my TMX Pro steering setup is connected to, which is connected to my TV. The secondary laptop which is on the same network, and can display my gauges. As I mentioned in my other post, my Asus ROG Strix gaming laptop with 9th gen i7, 4GB Geforce 1650, 8GB DDR4 Ram, and M.2 Drive run games a lot more smoothly than my desktop i5 with 4GB Geforce 1050ti, 16GB DDR3 Ram, and SSD Drive.

And now for the best part, how to install the extra dashboard screen. For starters download the Mobile Dashboard files you need by clicking HERE. On the right side, there is a green button that says CLONE OR DOWNLOAD. Once you click that button, click on DOWNLOAD ZIP. Once you have downloaded the all the files, extract the files using windows or a program like Winzip or Winrar to extract the compressed file. Once the files are extracted, go into the server folder and click on the ETS2TELEMETRY executable file. Once you do that, it will bring up a setup tab with a Install button on the bottom right side. Press Install.

Now for the second part.  In the extracted folder, with all your install files, look for a folder called Mobile.  Go inside Mobile, and then go inside the Android folder.  You will see a file called Ets2Dashboard.apk.  Copy this file to your Android tablet and run the file.  If you have never installed a APK file on your device aside from the Google Play Store, you may have to enable apps from unknown sources.  Once that is done, run the app on your Android device, and it will ask you for the IP address of your computer running the ATS or ETS Game.  If you do not know how to check your IP, just type CMD on your run bar next to the start button.  You will get a black screen which is called the Command Prompt.  From here type "ipconfig" and press enter.  If you are behind a router, you may more numbers than shown below.  This computer that I am on right now is connected directly to a modem, so it shows less.  However all you need is the ipv4 address.

Once you enter the computers IP address into the Android App, pick the dash type that you would like and run the game on your computer.  That is it.  A lot of people have trouble setting up the mobile dashboard, and there aren't a lot of detailed instructions on how to set it up out there.  I am trying my best to explain it here so that anyone can get this up and running, however if there are any parts of this process you do not understand, or if you are stuck on a particular section, feel free to leave me a message, and I will gladly help you set this up.

So with the dash on your tablet (or laptop), navigation screen on bottom right, and your side mirrors on the top left and right, you are ready to pick up your loads and drive them to their destinations. As you progress in this game and start making some money, don't forget to obtain more warehouses, drivers, and vehicles so that you can earn even more income. I am currently on California, Nevada, and Arizona. I will be purchasing some other expansion states soon, but for now I have enough work and scenery to see with these 3 states. You can switch to a outside view to see what your truck looks like too.

I have uploaded a small clip of my setup below. Please excuse the shaking, and the couple times that I stalled. I was shooting this clip in one hand while driving and shifting through 18 gears with my other hand. You really have to watch the low gears you use and your shifting based on if you have a heavy load, or no load at all. Just as in real life, you have to use your engine brakes, signals, wipers, stop for weigh stations etc. Luckily your navigation screen shows the speed limit of wherever you currently are, however go more than +5 miles per hour of the speed limit, and a speeding ticket gets issued to you automatically. Watch out for other cars. There are times when a different car or truck hit me, and it wasn't my fault, but I got charged anyway. You can even copy your mp3 files to the music folder and play your songs while driving.
